Italian national day celebrated in style

ISLAMABAD, JUNE 12 (DNA) -Italian ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo hosted national day reception at the Serena Hotel, beautifully decorated in the colours of the Italian flag, to celebrate the country`s national day.The theme for this year was Venice. Models wearing traditional Italian dresses remained center of attraction of the audience throughout the event.Federal Energy Omar Ayub Khan was the chief guest. His father Gohar Ayub Khan also graced the occasion as guest of honour.

An Italian singer sang national anthems of both counties. Guests gave her thunderous applause when she sang Pakistani national anthem in Urdu.

Ambassador Pontecorvo highlighted in his speech that Italy and Pakistan enjoy excellent diplomatic relations, and a number of Pakistanis are foreign workers in Italy and some have moved to the country for good.

He mentioned trade relations with Pakistan, and drew special attention to the successful aid and academic cooperation as well.

He said 1946 the Italian voted in a referendum to decide whether they wanted a Monarchy or become a republic. The republic won and that is how Italy became a republic.

The ambassador also praised his wife for making befitting arrangements in terms of decorating the venue so as to give it a typical Italian look.

He also lauded skills of the artist who sang national anthems of both countries.=DNA
